Self Host Lab is an independent publication about self-hosting, homelabs and media servers. Every guide on this site is written after actually installing and testing the software on our own hardware — a small lab of mini PCs, a NAS and a few Raspberry Pis that run 24/7.
What we do
We help you install, secure and run your own services: media servers like Jellyfin and Plex for your personal, legally acquired library, private cloud storage, password managers, home automation and self-hosted AI. We measure real numbers — install time, RAM usage, transcoding performance — so you can decide before you commit a weekend to a project.
Our rules
- We install everything we write about. Screenshots are ours, versions are stated, numbers are measured.
- We only cover tools for content you own or have the right to use.
- We always link to official documentation and repositories, never to repackaged downloads.
- Independence: we are reader-supported through advertising; nobody pays for coverage.
