Nextcloud released Hub 26 Summer (internally versioned v35) today, September 16, 2026, the latest release in its Hub 26 annual cycle. The stable build follows several weeks of Release Candidate testing that started in late August, and the rollout comes with a live launch event streaming at 15:00 CEST.

Nextcloud Hub is the company’s all-in-one, self-hosted collaboration platform: file sync and share, office document editing, calendar, mail, and video calls, all under one roof. Hub 26 Summer is the second release in the Hub 26 cycle, and its headline story is Euro-Office moving from the browser to the desktop.

Euro-Office is Nextcloud’s open-source, European-built office suite for documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, built as a sovereign alternative to Microsoft Office. IONOS, Open-Xchange, Office.eu, and other European partners are developing it together with Nextcloud, alongside a growing community of contributors. Until now, Euro-Office has only existed as a browser app.

With Hub 26 Summer, a dedicated Euro-Office desktop app is on the way, letting people edit files locally while staying connected and synced to Nextcloud. Worth flagging: the Hub 26 Summer platform is live today, but the desktop app itself isn’t downloadable yet. Nextcloud says that’s coming in the following weeks. The browser version of Office also got faster in this release, with better document filtering and thumbnails.

For self-hosters, the appeal is straightforward: instead of depending on a cloud-only office suite, Euro-Office keeps editing local while documents stay on infrastructure the user controls. That’s the same principle behind most of the tools covered on this site. It’s a familiar trade-off for anyone who’s already moved off Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, a bit more setup, in exchange for documents that aren’t tied to a subscription or a data center on the other side of the Atlantic.

Built with the ecosystem, not just by Nextcloud

A recurring theme in this release is co-development. Several Hub 26 Summer features are credited directly to partner organizations, not just Nextcloud’s own engineering team.

  • Teams gives project groups their own shared workspace, built using direct feedback from engineers at Dataport, a public-sector IT provider.
  • A new browsable room picker for booking calendar resources, contributed directly by developers at SURF, the Dutch collaborative organization for education and research.
  • Nextcloud Tables gets a structure-import feature, developed with the German state of Schleswig-Holstein, where public administration runs many specialized workflows, known there as Fachverfahren, on Nextcloud Tables. It lets an existing table adopt a new structure, such as extra columns or views, without losing its data, so a process can evolve instead of being rebuilt from scratch.
  • Across the Calendar, Mail, and Contacts apps, Nextcloud says more than half of this release’s improvements came from community contributors, not its own staff.

That much outside contribution is notable for a company that also sells commercial support contracts. Partners and everyday users are clearly shaping the Hub roadmap now, not just using it.

Nextcloud frames all of this around digital sovereignty. Founder and CEO Frank Karlitschek argues sovereignty depends as much on who controls the tools as on where the data physically sits. Patrick Schaudel, Chief Product Officer SMB Solutions at IONOS, points to a European need for an office solution that’s reliable and independent of non-European vendors. Anna Larch, Nextcloud’s Developer Relations Lead, describes an ecosystem that’s now actively helping build the product alongside Nextcloud, rather than just consuming it.

Part of a broader release cycle

Hub 26 Summer follows Hub 26 Spring, which shipped on June 9, 2026 to mark Nextcloud’s tenth anniversary. That release introduced a new office option, a lighter interface, and the Nextcloud Governance tool. Hub 26 Summer continues the same annual cycle, with the Euro-Office desktop expansion as its centerpiece and a bigger emphasis on features co-built with partner organizations and the wider community.

Nextcloud Hub 26 Summer is rolling out starting today. Full details are in Nextcloud’s official press release, and the launch event page has the details on today’s 15:00 CEST livestream. We’ll follow up with hands-on coverage once the Euro-Office desktop client is actually available to download.
